Your contractual manuscript deadline will represent your goal for final acceptable manuscript. It is important to recognize how PennWell defines this term:
- Final. This is your last draft, with no further content reviews, reorganization, or addition of new concepts or text. In order to achieve final acceptable manuscript by your contractual deadline, you must submit your total manuscript with enough time reasonably allowed for an independent review and any subsequent manuscript alterations. You might find some wording to clean up during the copyedit phase, but essentially, there will be no more content work on your manuscript.
- Acceptable. In this case, the determination of acceptable manuscript lies with the manuscript reviewer and your PennWell Managing Editor. If you submit your manuscript in clusters throughout the development period, you should have no worries about having your manuscript considered unacceptable at your contractual deadline. The point of the review process is to help head off any potential rewrite concerns so that neither you nor your editor will have an unpleasant surprise at your deadline submission. Acceptable also means that your manuscript will include all final ancillary materials, such as artwork and permissions.
Once your final acceptable manuscript is in hand, you will be introduced to the Copyedit and Production Process.
