About the Author

John L. Gidley graduated University of Texas in Austin, receiving B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering. John joined the research staff of the Humble (now Exxon-Mobil) Production Research Company in December 1954. The Acid-Mutual Solvent Method, he developed was patented and is still in use. From 1969 to 1986 he chaired the American Petroleum Institute (API) Subcommittee on Well Completion and initiated the committee effort that resulted in six API documents on recommended practices for testing and evaluation of well stimulation. He also chaired the Task Group on High Temperature Cements (1971 1979) and API Standardization Committee, Subcommittee 10, on Oil Well Cements (1969 1979). In addition to his editorship of Recent Advances in Hydraulic Fracturing, he also authored or co-authored 25 published technical papers. Co-authors for this book are Stephen A. Holditch, Dale E. Nierode, Ralph W. Veatch Jr.
