Steven W. Poston is a retired Professor Emeritus from Texas A&M University, with more than 12 years of teaching experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels in applied reservoir engineering and subsurface description of petroleum reservoirs. Poston s industry experience includes more than 14 years in a variety of subsurface engineering, geological, and managerial roles for Gulf Oil Exploration and Production Company in Nigeria, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Texas. Poston has been the coauthor of numerous industry technical papers; he also has served on a number of SPE committees.

Robert R. Berg was a distinguished petroleum geologist, educator, and scholar whose career spanned more than four decades across industry and academia. He began his professional journey as an exploration geologist and geophysicist, working with major oil and gas companies including Chevron, before founding Embar Oil Company, a consulting firm focused on generating exploration prospects. In 1967, Berg joined Texas A&M University, where he served as a professor, department head, and later director of the Office of University Research. His academic work, particularly in sedimentology and sandstone reservoir characterization, had a lasting impact on petroleum geology. Among his most influential contributions was the development of the turbidite exploration model, which helped redefine understanding of deepwater sandstone reservoirs in regions such as the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa.

Over his academic career, Berg supervised more than 100 graduate students, many of whom went on to become industry leaders, and published extensively, including his well-regarded textbook Reservoir Sandstones. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1988 and received numerous honors, including the Sidney Powers Memorial Award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Even after his official retirement, he remained active as professor emeritus, continuing to teach and mentor students. Known for his intellectual rigor, enthusiasm for teaching, and commitment to excellence, Berg’s legacy endures through his contributions to geoscience and the generations of students he inspired.
