About the Author

Norman J. Hyne, Ph. D., is a certified petroleum geologist and Professor of Petroleum Geology in Continuing Engineering and Science Education at The University of Tulsa. He has taught short courses on petroleum exploration, drilling, and production to more than 35,000 students on six continents. Previous to teaching short courses, he was chairman of the Geology and Geophysics Department. He has authored or edited nine books and numerous scientific papers. Dr. Hyne is a fellow in the Geological Society of America, an honorary member of the Tulsa Geological Society, an emeritus member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Society ofetroleum Engineers. He received his degrees in geology from Pomona College, Florida State University, and the University of Southern California. He is a fellow of The Explorers Club of New York.
