About the Author

Dr. Abdus Satter was the president of Satter and Associates, which was formed in Houston upon his retirement from Texaco in 1998. His company was involved in engineering consulting and training services. He has participated in and led reservoir management projects in the U.S., UK, Cameroon, Denmark, Indonesia, Nigeria, Trinidad, and elsewhere. He is a Distinguished Member and a Distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers on the topic of Integrated Reservoir Management (1996–1997), and Asset Management through the Reservoir Life Cycle (2002–2003). He teaches SPE and industry courses.

He has 40 years of worldwide, diversified experience and expertise in reservoir engineering, reservoir simulator development and applications, water flood, enhanced recovery techniques, and reservoir studies and operations. He has been published numerous times in these areas.

His previous published books with co-authors are Integrated Water Flood Asset Management and Computer-Assisted Reservoir Management. He holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dhaka, P.E., and M.S. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Ganesh Thakur is Distinguished Professor of Petroleum Engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering and Director for Energy Industry Partnerships at UH. He is President and Global Advisor at Thakur Services, Inc. and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Inventors. Dr. Thakur is also a recipient of the Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI) grant where he is helping lead the nation in cutting-edge research and further elevate future generations of students and faculty at Texas universities while spearheading new breakthroughs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine, all of which are crucial to the long-term success of the Texas economy.

He holds a Ph.D., Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, M.S., Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, M.A., Mathematics, Pennsylvania State University, M.B.A., Houston Baptist University, and a B.S.
